The classic sitcom The Wonder Years gets a reboot!
The popular 1988 coming-of-age sitcom, originally starring Fred Savage – has a new cast and location; viewing the cultural, political and social shifts of the 1960s through new eyes.
The reboot will star an African American middle class family – the Williams: newcomer Elisha “EJ” Williams as 12 year old Dean Williams, as well as Dulé Hill as Bill Williams, Saycon Sengbloh as Lillian Williams, Laura Kariuki as Kim Williams and is narrated by Don Cheadle.
Created by Saladin K Patterson, the reboot follows The Williams family in 1968 Montogomery, Alabama and features the well known Joe Cocker theme song, “With A Little Help From My Friends”. Through the eyes of the Williams family, themes of segregation and racial divide in Alabama are keenly felt in the series as well as preteen love, friendship and family dynamics.
The Wonder Years reboot makes sure to subtly honor the original series, with guest appearances by the original cast and Fred Savage directing the pilot episode and appearing as an executive producer on the project. The reboot is available on associated ABC streaming channels and Hulu.
