Based upon the eponymous Universal film franchise written and directed by Malcolm D. Lee (four episodes), the series will catch up with the beloved cast as relationships evolve and past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance.

Malcolm is a writer, director, and producer whose directorial work includes his critically-acclaimed feature film debut The Best Man which opened at No. 1 at the box-office, the smash hit Girls Trip with which Lee made history as the first film with a full African-American creative team in front of and behind the camera to surpass the $100 million mark at the domestic box office grossing over $140 million worldwide, and Night School another box office hit grossing over $100 million worldwide. One of Hollywood’s most bankable filmmakers, Lee released the worldwide hit Space Jam: A New Legacy starring LeBron James in 2021 and has Peacock’s The Best Man: Final Chapters an 8-part series finale to Lee’s iconic The Best Man franchise. Through his Blackmaled Productions banner, Lee is currently overseeing several feature and television projects in development including I Almost Forgot About You (Universal Pictures), an adaptation of Terry McMillan’s novel with Viola Davis, The Classic (Universal Pictures), Real Talk (Universal Pictures) and The Spoils (Lionsgate Films).

DAYNA LYNNE NORTH, Executive Producer, Co-Showrunner BIO: Dayna Lynne North is a film and television writer, producer, cultural curator, and self-described ‘Delightful Disruptor’ of the status quo. Currently, she is co-creating and executive producing THE BEST MAN: FINAL CHAPTERS, the adaptation of the iconic Best Man film franchise by Malcolm D. Lee. Dayna recently signed a two-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television under her Loud Sis Productions banner. Under the terms of this deal, North will create, develop, write, produce and supervise comedies and dramas across all platforms. Dayna is currently in development with writer/director Morgan Cooper and Gabrielle Union’s I’ll Have Another Productions on the half hour comedy BLACK COFFEE. Dayna was a writer/Executive Producer on the first three seasons of HBO’s Emmy-nominated, zeitgeist-shifting INSECURE, co-created by and starring Issa Rae. She was also a Consulting Producer on the Television Critics Association and Peabody Award-winning SWITCHED AT BIRTH. Prior to that, she was co-showrunner and Co-Executive Producer on VH1’s SINGLE LADIES. Dayna was also a Co-Executive Producer on the ABC Family drama, LINCOLN HEIGHTS, which garnered the NAACP Image award for Best Drama, as well as the Gabriel Award for Best Entertainment. She was a writer/producer on the first two seasons of the CW’s pop culture phenom, VERONICA MARS, starring Kristen Bell. She also wrote the holiday-themed Lifetime biopic, AN EN-VOGUE CHRISTMAS. In 2019, Dayna teamed up with founder/CEO Bridgid Coulter on the founding advisory board of Blackbird, House of Coworking – the first-ever private global co-working space designed by and for women of color. She is also on the Entertainment Committee for Time’s Up and a member of Time’s Up Women of Color, which aims to create a society free of gender-based discrimination in the workplace and beyond. Dayna is a native of Kansas City, Missouri, and a graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

“The BMF Documentary: Blowing Money Fast” is a limited event, half-hour episodic documentary series about the infamous Black Mafia Family, as told by former members, insiders, associates, and celebrity figures close to the family. The eight-part docuseries will chart the meteoric rise and fall of BMF founders: Demetrius “Big Meech” and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, two brothers who built one of the largest cocaine empires in American history.

Showrunner Bio:
Shan Nicholson is an award-winning filmmaker, music producer, and pop culture and counterculture storyteller. Nicholson’s debut into filmmaking came with his feature-length documentary Downtown Calling, a study of the evolution of New York City’s fertile music and art subculture during the late 70s early 80s, which garnered awards in numerous film festivals. In 2015, Nicholson’s second feature-length documentary, Rubble Kings, an exploration of 1970s gang culture in New York City, featured never before seen archive and groundbreaking animation. Released both nationally and internationally, the film received wide critical acclaim, most notably as a New York Times’ Critics Pick, making its way to Netflix’s most popular list. In 2017, Nicholson partnered with Stephen David Entertainment as showrunner and director for docuseries “Sugar Town.” The following year, Nicholson partnered with executive producer Leonardo DiCaprio, Sundance TV and Stephen David Entertainment as showrunner and director for “JONESTOWN: Terror In The Jungle,” a four part docuseries, which broke ratings records and was nominated for two Realscreen Awards. In 2020, Nicholson partnered with Blackfin Entertainment and CNN Originals and served as showrunner and executive producer for “JERUSALEM: City Of Faith And Fury,” a six part docu-drama that told the story of the most controversial city in world and the six epic conflicts throughout history that defined it, using groundbreaking high-end cinematic recreation and cutting edge visual effects.

Ukachi Arinzeh is a New York based producer and director, who from an early age was captivated by the power of stories. “Before pen and paper, before typewriters and iPads human beings used stories to record their history, convey their dreams, and inspire one another.” After a decade in Shanghai working as a commercial director for brands such as Converse, Max Mara & Baume Mercier, Ukachi returned to New York committed to making films with impact. Ukachi’s artistic focus is to make culturally relevant films that are engaging, entertaining, and facilitate dialogue around social justice to create a more equitable society.
